Amnesty
International is seeking a high-profile, inspirational and experienced Director
who is able to lead a team in Nigeria and represent the organisation externally
to deliver positive change in the human rights situations nationally,
regionally and globally.
Amnesty
International is a global movement of more than 3 million supporters, members
and activists in over 150 countries and territories who campaign to end grave
abuses of human rights. Amnesty’s vision is for every person to enjoy all the
rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other
international human rights standards. Amnesty International wishes to establish
a powerful presence in Nigeria as a national human rights entity that is part
of a global human rights movement, to address national human rights priorities
as well as create the possibility for people in Nigeria to join the
organisation’s global human rights campaigns.
Amnesty
International is looking for a director in Nigeria, who will be responsible for
leading the establishment and development of Amnesty International in Nigeria,
the initial set up of the office, management of the staff, resources, office
in-country and by setting the strategic direction for the entity lead the
operations within the country to achieve maximum impact. Externally the
Director is responsible for building national relationships and Amnesty
International’s profile in Nigeria and within the Amnesty International
movement. As the chief Amnesty International representative in the country, the
director will be spokesperson, and be responsible for senior level engagement
with the Nigerian government and others.
Candidates
should illustrate both the substantial knowledge of Human Rights and Social
Justice and keen understanding of the political, economic and social trends in
Nigeria, alongside the experience of establishing and leading an organisation
focused on activism and advocacy.
