4 boys clubbed and burnt alive at UNIPORT, update

 It's gruesome, it is sad and it shouldn't be happening.
 Four young men cut down at the prime of their lives.

Since this video hit the web on Friday, speculations and different eye witness accounts have been popping up.
what we do know for certain is that these boys were in their 20's and at least 2 of them were students of the University of Port-Harcourt in Rivers-state.

The popular story is that they stole a laptop and a blackberry phone. When did such paltry possessions be a reason to take a life, talk less of four. Another story was that these boys were responsible for the armed robbery attacks one of such took the life of a family man after sexually molesting his daughter in front of him.

We were informed that they confessed to all accusations but lets face it people, after all the torture WHO WOULDN'T? Even if only to get a temporary respite.

Another story is now circulating and this is a lot more credible. 

The Students involved were Cultists, it is a known fact that part of the initiation cermony of the cult is to rob, it just so happens that they were caught. Some Uniport students claim that information of the said raid was leaked by a rival cult. The village of  Aluu, and Ikwere locale in River state is known for its zero tolerance level for thieves and have always practiced their jungle justice, even amongst their indigenes. 

The rest of the story is straight forward. Five boys or should I say young men went on a mission. An alarm was raised when they tried to leave. One escaped and the remaining 4 were caught with Weapons.

The rest, as they say ... is history.

UniPort students have been trying to rally others to fight, the police claim they don't know the perpetuators of the crime and the governor is enraged.  

apparently, this week is going to be bloody. Plans for revenge have reached a peak and students are being advised to leave the village lest they be caught in the cross fire. This may just turn out to be war.

REGGAE FESTIVAL, OCTOBER 1ST

It’s the first of its kind in Nigeria; it’s the Reggae Festival!

The event, organised by Bryze Entertainment, promises to be an exhibition of the best and most talented Reggae stars Nigeria has to offer.

According to the organisers, the Reggae Festival will hold at Elegushi Beach, Lagos, on October 1, which happens to be Nigeria’s Independence Day.

“The essence of the Reggae Festival is to let Nigerians and the world know that we have come a long way in Reggae music from the days of the Mandators, Ras Kimono and Majek Fashek. We also want to help the younger generation of reggae artistes showcase their talents and let everyone know that reggae is a very relevant music genre”’ explained Reggae star Pupa Oritz Wiliki, who is one of the conveners.

Nigerian Hajj women held in Saudi Arabia

Nigerian women often go to Mecca with an official from their Hajj committee instead of a male relative

Nigeria is protesting about the detention of about 1,000 Nigerian women at airports in Saudi Arabia.

The women, some of whom have been held since Sunday, had been planning to make the Muslim Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Nigeria's ambassador to Saudi Arabia told the BBC the authorities were stopping women under the age of 35.

There has been an understanding in the past that Nigerian women are exempt from travelling with a male relative - a requirement for women on the Hajj.

Nigerian diplomats say the agreement between National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and the Saudi authorities allows visas to be issued for Nigerian women going to Mecca as long as they are accompanied by their local Hajj committee officials.

Correspondents say many Nigerians have entered Saudi Arabia illegally to seek work.

'Mismatched surnames'

Since Sunday, hundreds of Nigerian women have been stopped at the airports in Jeddah and Medina.

Nigeria's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Abubakar Shehu Bunu, said he had made a formal protest to the foreign affairs office in the capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday.

"They are stopping women particularly between the ages of 25 and 35 without a male relative. Those over 45 are not a concern to the Saudi authorities," he told the BBC's Hausa Service.

One woman told the BBC her group were being held in Jeddah not because they were travelling without male relatives but because the surnames on their passports did not correspond with those of their husbands.

"Our husbands' names are different from our surnames and they won't allow that," Bilkisu Nasidi, who travelled from the northern Nigerian city of Katsina, told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme.

She said the hundreds of women were sleeping on the floor, did not have their belongings and were sharing four toilets at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

It is a common practice for Muslim women in Nigeria not to take their husband's name.

More than two million Muslims are due to converge on Mecca for this year's Hajj, which is set to culminate over a four-day period somewhere between 24-29 October depending on lunar observations.

NIGERIA BOKO HARAM CRACK DOWN KILLS 35

At least 35 suspected Islamists have been killed in a sweep against the Boko Haram group in north-eastern Nigeria, the army has said.

The army also said it detained more than 60 others during operations in Adamawa and Yobe states.

The Islamist group opposes Western influence in Nigeria and has carried out a string of attacks.

On Sunday, the 23rd of September, an attack on a Catholic church in the north blamed on Boko Haram left two people dead.

A military spokesman told AFP news agency that the operation took place overnight between Sunday and Monday and a curfew had been imposed in Damaturu, capital of Yobe state, ahead of the crackdown.

Soldiers went door-to-door in three of the town's neighbourhoods and exchanged fire with militants throughout the night. Two soldiers were injured in the fighting.

Dozens of guns and explosive devices, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition as well as 32 arrows and two swords were among items found in Boko Haram hideouts.

The town has been one of the worse affected by the activities of the group, which wants to impose Sharia law across Nigeria.

In June, gun battles between suspected members and the security forces paralysed the city, leaving some unable to leave their homes or places of work.

Attacks in central and northern Nigeria blamed on Boko Haram have killed some 1,400 people since 2010.

An explosion sounded on Amodu Ojitiku street in Victoria island a few minuites ago.

Witnesses say a well dressed woman driving a jeep stopped on the street and dropped a large suitcase before speeding off.

Her package was dropped infront of a recharge card sales man who suspicious due to the multiple threats by boko haram sect raised an alert. this in turn ensured that the anti-bomb squad be dispatched to the said location. Two explosions were heard and there was a lot of smoke but no lives or properties were lost.

We use this forum to thank the Nigerian police force for its speedy response.

Though

 the police force refused to comment  bystanders had a lot to say.

Some were of the opinion that since no life was lost it must have been something else in the suitcase. A suggestion was guns which would account for the two loud reports.

Olympic Torch Relay 2012

Funke Khadijat Akindele Oloyede, Banky W, Kanu Nwankwo and Steve Onu popularly called Yaw have been named as Nigeria’s representatives to bear the prestigious Olympic Torch.

This is the second time a Nigerian musician would be selected to feature in the ceremonial initiative. Rapper Eedris Abdulkareem was part of the Nigerians selected to carry the torch in 2001.

Those nominated from the UK (apart of course from the celebrities or the Queens granddaughter) all have touching stories and have managed to affect the lives of those around them one way or the other.

In Bath, 19-year-old James Eynon will be a torchbearer after being nominated for helping in a campaign to save his former school in the city from closure.

He said: 'My radio interviews speeches and pieces in the local newspaper helped to overturn a decision to close my school just weeks before the closure was finalised.

'I have already shown that if you put your mind to things you can achieve your desired goal.'

Quick fixes: From Brain Freeze to Hiccupping

Arm or Leg Goes to Sleep

Ever get that dull feeling in your arm or leg like it’s asleep? This temporary and harmless sensation is caused by constant pressure on nerves, leaving them unable to transmit messages to your brain. The cure is simple: change positions. As feeling starts to come back to the area, you may experience tingling (“pins and needles”) for a little while. Chronic tingling indicates a more serious underlying condition that should be evaluated by a doctor.

Black Hairy Tongue

No, this isn’t something from a creature feature. Although it is a temporary, harmless (benign), painless oral condition it definitely is not a pretty sight to behold. Black hairy tongue occurs when the little bumps on your tongue grow long (instead of shedding), and bacteria grow on them. Poor oral hygiene, smoking, some mouthwashes, radiation therapy to the head and neck, and certain medications can play a role.

To help, brush your teeth and tongue twice a day, use a tongue scraper, and avoid aggravating factors.

The Brain Freeze

Oh no, not again!  “Ice cream headaches” happen when something cold touches nerves in the roof of the mouth,, the blood vessels contract in response in an effort to prevent loss of body heat. As the coldness recedes, the blood vessels relax again, quickly increasing blood flow to the brain, triggering blood vessels in the front of your head to swell. This rapid swelling causes the familiar, jabbing pain of a brain freeze.

An easy solution? Try eating ice cream or other cold foods more slowly to avoid getting a headache.

Cramps

This startling muscle spasm can last a few seconds, even several minutes. Dehydration, muscle overuse, nerve irritation, and low levels of certain minerals -- like potassium and calcium -- can be culprits.

Try drinking some water, walk around to relieve the pain, or shake your leg and stretch the muscle. If cramps persist, see your doctor.

Discolored Nails

Curious about color changes in your nails? About 50% of nail problems are caused by fungal infections. Greenish nails may come from pseudomonas bacteria and are easily treated with antibiotics. Yellowish nails are often a sign of fungus. And red, purple, or black under nails may be caused by blood resulting from injury. Changes can also be related to medical treatments or signal a more serious condition.

Ear Popping

We’ve all yawned on a plane trip to “pop” our ears. What we’re doing is equalizing the pressure between the inside and the outside of our eardrum as the altitude changes. That “pop” means a tube connecting your middle ear to the back of your throat has opened, relieving pressure.

To help, you can also close your mouth, hold your nose, and blow gently; or try chewing gum or yawning.

Ear Wax Buildup

Keep fingers and cotton swabs out of your ear canals. Earwax helps fight infection, keeps ears clean, and our bodies naturally get rid of excess earwax through the ear opening. Problems like impaction often start when we try to clean our ears with a swab or another object. Impaction symptoms include pain, itching, ringing of the ears, or hearing loss.

Your doctor can remove excess ear wax with irrigation or manual removal.

Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Sure, it’s a mood killer, but this problem is very common and happens to completely healthy people. While it can occur on the face, sweating is usually worse on the palms, soles, and in the armpits. Treatment may include aluminum chloride antiperspirants, Botox injections, oral medications, mild electrical currents, or even surgery.

Eye Twitching

Eyelid spasms are unpredictable, bothersome, and harmless. Eye twitching can be caused by stress, fatigue, caffeine, eyestrain, and dry eyes, though more serious twitching may be caused by neurological disorders, like Tourette’s syndrome.

Eyelid spasms usually go away on their own, but if they are severe, Botox injections may be recommended.

Hiccups

Hiccups are an uncontrollable contraction of the diaphragm (the breathing muscle under the lungs). Eating too much or too fast, overdoing alcohol, or swallowing air can all cause the hiccups.

They usually go away on their own, but you can try remedies like holding your breath, quickly drinking water, and breathing in a bag to help hasten hiccups away.

Overdevelopment of Male Breasts

Gynecomastia is usually caused by normal changes in hormone levels at birth, puberty, and later in life. For newborns and boys, the ratio of estrogens (female hormones) to androgens (male hormones) balances out in time. It’s also seen in men as they age, often related to certain medications, liver or kidney problems, or tumors. 

A physician’s evaluation can get at the root cause, but by itself, the condition is usually harmless.

Vertigo

Whoa! If it feels like the room’s moving when it’s not, it could be vertigo. Sometimes caused by inner ear problems or nerve damage, vertigo can last minutes, even hours. To distinguish vertigo from dizziness, there must be a feeling of motion; other symptoms that may occur include hearing loss, ear discomfort, and unusual eye movements. Treating vertigo depends on the cause.
